SRU earns Top 100 U.S. News and World Report regional honor

Slippery Rock University has been named a Top 100 Regional University - North in the U.S. News & World Report's 2013 edition of Best Colleges released today.

“It is always an honor to be recognized for the outstanding education SRU delivers. This report is a good tool for prospective students and their parents to use when evaluating where to go to college. The report gives an extensive statistical profile of each university included, and I think many will find our profile very informative,” said Cheryl Norton, SRU president.

The 2013 report includes national universities, national liberal arts colleges, regional universities and regional colleges.

The report describes SRU as offering: “Rock Solid academics; A classic residential campus; A safe, small-town setting; An affordable life-long value; Committed, caring faculty and a once in a lifetime experience.” It also provides photos, application information and data related to academics and student life.

Like the national universities, institutions included in the Regional University lists provide a full range of undergraduate majors and master’s programs; the difference is that they offer few, if any, doctoral programs. The universities in the category are ranked against their peer group in one of four geographic regions—North, South, Midwest, and West— because, in general, they tend to draw students most heavily from surrounding states, according to the report.

The annual report provides wide-ranging interactivity for those involved in a college search to enable students and parents to find the school that best fits their needs.

“We rank for best quality, and we rank for best value as well,” U.S. News and World Report officials said. “Most people choose a college only once in their lifetime, so there's not much opportunity to learn from your past mistakes. Instead, you need first-rate information from the start. The 2012 edition of Best Colleges, in print and online, can help you by making it easier for you to sift through data from more than 1,800 colleges and universities.”

The report is available for sale online at http://www.usnews.com at bookstores and newsstands.

Slippery Rock University is Pennsylvania's premier public residential university. Slippery Rock University provides students with a comprehensive learning experience that intentionally combines academic instruction with enhanced educational and learning opportunities that make a positive difference in their lives.
