SRU graduate gets ’40 Under 40’ Mass Transit Magazine honor

Tim Geibel, a 2000 Slippery Rock University health services administration graduate, is among the “40 Under 40” list produced by Mass Transit Magazine.
In 2003, he was hired as a transportation planner by the Centre Regional Planning Agency in State College, Pa., where his primary role was to provide planning support to the Centre Area Transportation Authority, which serves the public transportation needs of Penn State and the surrounding communities. He began his transportation career with the Butler [Pa.] Transit Authority, where he served as the public outreach/public relations director.
Geibel was then named executive director of Crawford Area Transportation Authority in Meadville, Pa., where he has served seven years and led a large expansion in service and facilities. Under his leadership, CATA maintains the lowest expense per passenger of any rural fixed-route provider in the state of Pennsylvania.
The company’s facility upgrade and expansion under his leadership received the designation of LEED Silver by the USGBC, becoming the second rural public transportation facility in Pennsylvania to achieve the award.
He is among those leading a consortium of rural Pennsylvania public transportation providers from Clarion, Forest, Venango and Warren counties examining a regionalization project to identify ways for better, more consolidated delivery of public transportation in the Northwest region of the commonwealth.
He has served on the Pennsylvania Public Transportation Association board of directors since 2008 and recently completed a three-year term on the National RTAP advisory board. He is Western Crawford County United Way board member and president of the Crawford Area Young Chamber of Commerce. He recently received his “Counselor Advocate” for Women’s Services Inc. certification and serves as a Eucharistic minister for his parish.
Geibel earned a master of science in organizational leadership at Geneva College.
