Sunset Serenade Celebration set

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's Sunset Serenade Celebration "Renaissance" will be offered Oct. 6 at SRU's Storm Harbor Equestrian Center. Proceeds will help build an endowment, expand services and provide scholarship assistance to SRU students and riders who use the center. More than 250 people are expected.

The doors open at 5:30 p.m. with refreshments and bluegrass music by Well Strung. The four culinary stations, "Peasants and Serfs," "Lords and Knights," "Kings and Queens" and "Jester's Court" - open at 6:30 p.m. The menu includes grilled lamb kebabs, braised pork, baked scallops and a host of desserts, including peach cobbler and brandied plums.

A live auction will begin at 8 p.m. Auction items include autographed jerseys from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Steelers, a high definition television and an iPpod. There are also more than 100 silent auction gift baskets.

Storm Harbor Equestrian Center is one of the few facilities in the state to offer equine-assisted therapeutic riding programs for those with cognitive, physical and emotional disabilities. SRU students teach many of the equestrian activities, gaining invaluable career preparation.

Horseback riders gain many clinical benefits, including improved muscle strength, self-esteem, independence, coordination and better circulation.
