SECA campaign adds new sign-up option

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - This year's State Employee Combined Appeal, best known as "SECA," has a new wrinkle. Participants in the statewide drive can use their online Employee Self-Service account to make their contribution.

"Employees certainly can continue to use the regular payroll deduction pledge card or a direct tax-deductible gift by check or money order, but by adding the EES system, which is available through the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education online portal, they can also make their pledge quickly and easily," said Pam Miller, management technician in SRU's Office of Human Resources and this year's SECA campaign coordinator on campus.

Those using the ESS system, available from the PASSHE homepage, can elect to have their donation deducted from their pay.

Last year, more than 11,000 Pennsylvania employees donated $2.8 million to help people in need through the appeal. SECA is the only such appeal permitted in state offices.

SRU's goal is $22,320.

Gov. Tom Corbett serves as chairperson for the SECA drive.

"Please consider joining me as a SECA leadership giver this year. The new Governor's Circle and Gold leadership giving levels recognize those employees who commit to donate at least the equivalent of an hour or half-hour of their pay each month," Corbett said.

The drive runs through Nov. 1 under the "Walk in the Shoes" campaign banner.

Those participating in the drive can earmark their contribution to hundreds of charities and non-profit organizations.

"The SECA drive is designed to make it easier and more efficient on all of the member organizations by combining resources into one single campaign," Miller said. "This allows all of the organizations to save money in printing, advertising and mailing, thus making more funding available for their special cause."

All of the participating charities are included in the SECA Resource Guide available at:

"Of special note is that we no longer have to print the resource guide, which results in another cost savings, because it is online," Miller said.
