Curry earns Pitt African-American Alumni Council Award

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –Charles Curry, Slippery Rock University vice president for finance and administration, has been selected to receive a Distinguished Alumnus Award from the African American Alumni Council of the University of Pittsburgh.

Curry, who served as the University’s acting president from February 2012 through May 2012, will be recognized at the organization’s Distinguished Alumni Awards Banquet, Oct. 13.

Robert Hill, vice chancellor for public affairs at Pitt, nominated Curry for his commitment to higher education, contributions in service and volunteer work, and for serving as a model of success for African-American students.

Curry joined the University in 1986. In 2011, Curry was named one of the “Top 40 Inspirers” nationally by InSpire Magazine and was named one of the New Pittsburgh Courier’s “Men of Excellence” awardees.
