SRU soccer Ring of Honor inducts seven

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –The second group of inductees will be added to the Slippery Rock University soccer “Ring of Honor” during weekend festivities on campus.

The class of 2012 includes SRU alumni: Ray Bitar, 1963; Thomas “Tucker” Campion, 1979; Ryan Gillespie, 1995; Gerald Hendershot, 1981; James Herlinger, 1974; Patrick O'Hare, 1965; and Donald Shea, 1974.

Inclusion in the soccer Ring of Honor is open to all former SRU varsity soccer players five years or more after graduation. It is also open to coaches or others who have made an outstanding contribution to the game. Those named to the SRU Hall of Fame automatically become members of the Ring of Honor. The ring was created to recognized personal accomplishments since graduation and/or contributions individuals have made to SRU soccer or in their own community in athletics since graduation. Public nominations are accepted. The ring’s board of directors makes the final selection.

Induction ceremonies will be at 7 p.m., today, in the Smith Student Center Ballroom.

Ring of Honor inductees will be recognized during halftime of The Rock men's soccer match against Millersville at 1 p.m., Oct. 13, on Egli Field.
