SRU’s Rocket earns two Columbia Scholastic Press awards

Two Slippery Rock University’s student newspaper staff have scored two awards in the newspaper category of Columbia Scholastic Press Association 29th Gold Circle Awards Program. The program is administered by the journalism department at Columbia University.

Honored were: Alex Mowrey, a communication major from Pittsburgh, who earned second place in the single feature photography category for his “Finally Famous photo; and Lexi Kovski, a communication major from Slippery Rock, and Mowrey earned a certificate of merit in the two or more pages photo layout category for their “Rock around the World” display.

This year’s contest attracted nearly 10,500 entries from newspapers and magazines produced by students at colleges, universities and secondary schools throughout the U.S.

Mark Zeltner, associate professor of communication, is the newspaper’s adviser.
