SRU graduate joins PVCC

James Ross, a 1976 Slippery Rock University bachelor of arts graduate and a 1978 SRU master’s degree recipient, has joined Piedmont Virginia Community College as vice president for institutional advancement and development.

He has 20 years experience in community college and nonprofit advancement and development leadership roles. As a fundraiser, he has planned and led three successful capital campaigns.

As vice president at PVCC, Ross will provide leadership to the offices of development, grants, marketing, media relations, alumni and adult outreach and recruiting. He will serve as the executive director of the PVCC Educational Foundation where he will provide leadership in donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for the college.

His career includes broad experience relating to advancement and development. He has served as vice president for advancement and public affairs at Brevard Community College in Cocoa, Fla.; vice president for development at Crosswinds Youth Services; and as owner of a publishing company.

Ross is the author of two books and has appeared on the “NBC Today Show.”

In addition to his SRU degrees, he earned a doctorate of education in organizational leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
