Cross country runner earns PSAC Champion Scholar Award

Kara Styles, a Slippery Rock University doctor of physical therapy student from Windber, has been named the Champion Scholar of the 2012 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Championships for the second time.

The award was presented Saturday at Cooper's Lake Campground. She received the same honor last spring.

The Champion Scholar Award was initiated by the PSAC during the 2011-12 academic year to honor the athlete competing at each championship site that maintains the highest grade point average. It is modeled after the NCAA Elite 88 Award.

Styles has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average through 144 credit hours.

She finished 18th in competition to earn All-Conference honors at the championships.
