Women’s soccer faces Kutztown today
CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The 22nd-ranked Slippery Rock University women’s soccer team will face No. 17 Kutztown University in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference semifinals today at 1:30 p.m. at top-seed California University of Pennsylvania.
All four of the top seeds in the eight team PSAC playoffs were victorious in the quarterfinals, setting up the championship weekend.
The Rock (14-3-2, 10-2-2 PSAC) earned the No. 3 seed in the PSAC playoffs and defeated two-time defending champion West Chester, 1-0, in the quarterfinals Tuesday. Kuztown (15-4-0, 11-3-0 PSAC) earned the No. 2 seed and advanced to the semifinals with a 2-1 win over Gannon in the quarterfinals Tuesday.
The other semifinal matchup will feature the No. 1 seed, undefeated California (16-0-2, 12-0-2 PSAC) and No. 4 seed Edinboro (15-4-0, 10-4-0 PSAC). California and Edinboro will play at 11 a.m. today. The winners of the two semifinal games will play for the championship Saturday at 4 p.m.
SRU is making its ninth appearance in the PSAC playoffs, including its second consecutive trip to the semifinals. The Rock owns two championships, the most recent coming in 2005 with a 1-0 win over Kutztown. SRU was eliminated in a penalty kick shootout against West Chester in the semifinals last year.
Kutztown is making its fourth consecutive trip to the playoffs, including its second straight trip to the semifinals. The Golden Bears have reached the championship game on three different occasions, but have never come out with a win.
Admission is free with a valid ID for any student attending a PSAC institution. Ticket prices, which are mandated by the league office, are $7 for adults and $2 for non-PSAC student.
