SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Brig. Gen. Kevin Jacobsen, a 1980 Slippery Rock University political science graduate, now commander of the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations headquartered in Quantico, Va., will be the speaker when the SRU Alumni Association presents its annual Veterans Day Observance at 11 a.m., Nov. 11.
The event will be on the lawn in front of the Russell Wright Alumni House and Conference Center.
Jacobsen oversees professional investigative services regarding fraud, counterintelligence and major criminal matters for 237 worldwide locations.
He joined the Air Force in 1980 as a graduate of the SRU ROTC program.
Jacobsen has spent the majority of his military career as a special agent of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations as well as a member of the Joint Staff and in the Office of the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon.
He has received numerous awards, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
The SRU Chamber Singers, under the direction of Stephen Barr, SRU assistant professor of music, will present musical selections, and Lt. Col. Joseph Alessi, SRU professor of military science, will serve as master of ceremonies.
ASRU Army ROTC cadets will raise the colors, fire the cannon and present a 21-gun salute.
Andrew Loose, a music education major from Mechanicsburg and member of the SRU Marching Pride, will play "Taps" and Samuel Quadri, an SRU exploratory student from Pittsburgh and an ROTC cadet, will lay the wreath.
Mike Crim, a 2011 SRU graduate, veteran and member of the SRU Alumni Association board of directors, and SRU President Cheryl Norton will offer remarks as part of the ceremony.
A reception, hosted by the alumni association and the SRU Office of Alumni Engagement, will follow in the Alumni House.
