Rock soccer teams earn PSAC semifinal berths

The Rock women’s and men’s soccer teams both recorded 2-1 upset wins over the region’s top-ranked teams yesterday to earn berths in Saturday’s semifinal games of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs.

The Rock women eliminated second-seeded West Chester and will meet sixth-seeded East Stroudsburg in a 1:30 p.m. match Saturday in California, Pa.

The Rock women’s team, coached by Noreen Herlihy, will take an 11-5-2 record into Saturday’s match.

A win Saturday earns SRU a berth in Sunday’s noon PSAC championship match in California against the winner of the California University (Pa.) - Edinboro game.

The Rock men’s team eliminated third-seeded Gannon in double overtime and will meet second-seeded West Chester in a 1:30 p.m. semifinal match Saturday at Mercyhurst University in Erie.

The Rock men’s team, coached by Michael Bonelli, will take an 11-3-6 record into Saturday’s match.

A win Saturday earns SRU a berth in Sunday’s noon PSAC championship match in Erie against the winner of the Mercyhurst - Millersville game.
