Lauren Impey, a Slippery Rock University adaptive physical activity major from Northampton, England, and a member of the women's soccer team, has been named to the first team Capital One Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
In order to be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, carry a 3.0 or higher grade point average and have significant athletic credentials. The team is nominated for and voted on by the sports information directors in each district.
All first team selections in the district advance to the Capital One Academic All-America ballot, which will be announced Nov. 25.
Impey is one of only 12 women's soccer players and one of only four defenders in the district to earn the Academic All-District honor. Eleven players from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference were named to the team, along with one player from the Mountain East Conference.
Impey anchors an SRU back line that has posted one of the best team goals against average figures in the region in each of the last two years. She also contributes offensively for The Rock with one game-winning goal and four assists on the year.
Slippery Rock, ranked No. 14 in Division II and No. 1 in the Atlantic Region, has allowed just eight goals through 16 games this fall and has allowed only 50 shots on goal.
The SRU women’s team hosts a PSAC quarterfinal game as the No. 2 seed at 5:30 p.m., today in Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
