SRU plans Veterans Day Ceremony today

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University's Office of Alumni Engagement and the SRU Alumni Association will pay homage to veterans with an 11 a.m. ceremony today at the Veterans' Memorial outside the Russell Wright Alumni House and Conference Center.

Mike Crum, a 2011 SRU social work graduate and veteran, will provide the welcome. The SRU Army ROTC Color Guard will raise the flags.

Lt. Col. Joseph Alessi, chair of the SRU military science department and head of SRU's Army ROTC program, will deliver the keynote address.

Capt. Bryan Morgan, officer in charge of recruiting and operations in SRU's Army ROTC program, will handle the laying of the Veteran's Memorial wreath.

Joshua Kauffman, a music major from New Castle and a member of the SRU Marching Pride, will play "Taps," and the SRU Chamber Singers will sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" and the "SRU Alma Mater."

Participants are invited to a reception in the Alumni House immediately following the ceremony.
