#instaSRU contest nets winners prizes

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Four Slippery Rock University students have had their Instagram photos chosen as the winners in the October Instagram Contest hosted by SRU's Enrollment Services.

The four students received $25 SGA Bookstore gift cards.

The winners are:

• Tyler Prevade, a history and political science major from Oakdale in the Campus Beauty category.

• Carole Allen, an athletic training major from Hilliard, Ohio, in the Rock Pride category.

Taylor Buhler, an accounting majors from Slippery Rock, in the Academics/Classroom Experiences category.

• Brandon Bortzer, an environmental studies major from Titusville in the Fall Leaves category.

• The contest asked students to submit photos showing what they love about SRU by using the hashtag "#instaSRU."

During the contest 366 photos were submitted from 141 students and the number of followers on SRU's Instagram account increased by 364. Additionally, the number of photos tagged with #instaSRU increased from 321 to 941 and the SRU Instagram account now has more than 1,500 followers.

"We undertook the project because it was something fun for current students that would provide prospective students with the opportunity to view SRU through the eyes of the students who live the SRU experience. Instagram helps to paint a beautiful picture of Slippery Rock University," said Kayla Hersperger, online design and communications specialist for enrollment services, who administered the contest.

Additional contests are being planned for the coming academic year as SRU marks its 125th anniversary.
