Slippery Rock University placed a school record seven women soccer players on the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference All-Conference team announced earlier this week.
The team played earlier today in the NCAA Tournament Round of 16, but lost 1-0 to West Chester, ending its 2012 season. Today’s game was The Rock’s eighth appearance in NCAA Tournament play, its third consecutive appearance and its second straight trip to the Sweet 16.
The seven selections to the All-PSAC team are the most in the history of the SRU program, surpassing the previous record of six set in multiple seasons.
First team honors went to Lucy Hannon, the PSAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, from Galway, Ireland; Emer Flatley, a defender also from Galway, and Dana O’Neill, a goalkeeper from Leonardtown, Md.
Shelby Ward, a forward from Avella, Leslie Henny, a midfielder from Lititz, and Lauren Impey, a defender from Northampton were named to the second team.
Izabel Scott, a defender from Port Matilda, was named to the third team.
Noreen Herlihy, the team’s head coach, was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. She is currently in her 18th season at The Rock and has earned three Coach of the Year titles.
