SRU to WOW newly arriving students Aug. 26-29
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – More than 650 Slippery Rock University upperclassmen, faculty and staff volunteers will be on hand Aug. 26-29 to provide the traditional SRU welcome as more than 1,800 new students arrive at the residence halls for the opening of fall semester. WOW! is SRU’s traditional “Weekend of Welcome” program.

Slippery Rock University gifts exhibit to Heinz History Center
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University Foundation has gifted its “Sisters in Healthcare History Project” to the Senator John Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh. The project features a collection of artifacts showcasing the significant contributions of 16 orders of Roman Catholic sisters who helped develop health care in western Pennsylvania from 1847-1969.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – G.I. Jobs magazine, published by Pittsburgh-based, veteran-owned Victory Media, has again named Slippery Rock University to its annual list of Military Friendly Schools. The list honors the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America’s veterans as students.

Summer Book Program supports common learning experience

Stafford becomes interim chief of University Police
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Windy Stafford, a 2000 Slippery Rock University graduate, has been named interim chief of University Police. She replaces Robert Downey Jr., who accepted a position as police chief at California University of Pennsylvania.

SRU announces 9/11 remembrance; joins Shanksville service
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s AmeriCorps Community Fellows will host a special remembrance program Sept. 10 honoring all victims of the 9/11terrorist attacks. In addition, AmeriCorp members and the SRU Student Government Association will join the National Parks Service 9/11National Day of Service and Remembrance initiative in Shanksville.

Critically acclaimed play opens Monday
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – “Deepchurch Hollow,” a play by David Skeele, Slippery Rock University theatre professor that earned multi-star reviews when presented this summer in Scotland, comes to campus for 8 p.m. performances Monday and Tuesday in Miller Auditorium.
