SRU Alumni Association awards $12,000 in scholarships

 

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University Alumni Association will award more than $12,000 in scholarship aid to 13 SRU students at its annual spring semester scholarship and awards dinner.

             The $1,250 Carl and Norma Watson Laughner Scholarship will be presented to Matthew Henderson, an accounting major from New Castle.

The $1,000 Maree McKay/Esther Smiley Scholarships will go to Morgan Bonekovic, a criminal justice major from Masury, Ohio; Alaina Camps, an elementary education major from Waynesburg; Rebecca Coleman, a communication major from Elma, N.Y.; Samantha Hayduk, an elementary education major from Kane; Lauren Tucker, a health services administration major from Perryopolis; Caitlin Weaver, an elementary education/early childhood development major from Conneaut Lake; and, Nina Zyvith, an environmental chemistry major from Bovard.

The $650 Maggie Meise Fellowship for Graduate Students will be awarded to: Megan Barr, an elementary education graduate student from Butler.

The $1,000 Madeline Farnen Stoops Scholarship for Education Majors will be awarded to Lauren Jarrett, an elementary education major from Harmony, and Corey Street, an elementary education major from Louisville, Ohio.

The $750 Eisaman Alumni Scholarship for Sophomore Students will be presented to Janelle Krantz, a therapeutic recreation major from Quarryville.

The $500 Hallie Dugan Smith/Nancy Smith Angell Scholarship will be presented to Kalli Wakefield, an elementary education major from Avon Lake, Ohio.

Members of this year’s scholarship and awards selection committee were: Linda Williamson, chair; Ben Addison, Lynette Beattie, Walter Patterson and Lorraine Troiano-Barron.

The scholarship will be presented at the association’s 5 p.m., April 16, awards dinner in the Russell Wright Alumni House and Conference Center.
