SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s Sigma Tau Delta, the English honorary, has launched a “First Thursday Author” series bringing contemporary authors to campus for conversations with the campus community.
Shari Mauer, author of “Change of Heart,” lectures at 4 p.m., Feb. 23, in Spotts World Cultures Building.
Her first novel, for young adults, was published in 2010. Her second book is complete and work is under way on her third.
B.T. Robertson, author of “Chronicles of the Planeswalkers,” a three-volume fantasy series, will be the speaker at 7:30 p.m., March 3, in Strain Behavioral Science Building.
Robertson, a Pittsburgh native and resident, has said his passion for fantasy began as a youngster infatuated with video games. He used games such as SquareSoft’s “Final Fantasy,” “Chrono Trigger” and “Secret of Mana” to shape his love for fantastic worlds, colorful characters and epic stories.
He was introduced to fantasy novels as a teenager and said his first adventure was “The Sum of All Men,” the first books of David Farland’s best-selling series “The Runelords.”
William Boggs, SRU professor of English and poet, will deliver the third lecture at 7:30 p.m., April 7, in Eisenberg Classroom Building.
Boggs, who teaches a number of English courses at SRU, including “College Writing I,” is the author of “Swimming in Clear Water,” “Eddy Johnson's American Dream,” “The Man Who Never Comes Back,” and “Greatest Hits,” available from Pudding House Publications.
He is part of the Pennsylvania Center for the Book and the the Pennsylvania Writers Collection and has received a Pennsylvania Arts Council Fellowship, Academy of American Poets Prize, a Mary Roberts Rinehart Foundation Grant, a P.E.N.
