Dec. 18 ceremonies honor SRU graduates


SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University will award 426 undergraduate degrees and 81 master’s degrees at its winter commencement ceremony at 11 a.m., Dec. 18, in Morrow Field House.

Robert Smith, SRU president, will offer remarks.

Joshua Young, chair of the SRU Council of Trustees, will bring greetings from the council. Graduates will be presented by their respective college deans as part of the ceremony.

Tickets have been distributed to all graduating seniors and are required for admission. Doors open at 9 a.m. An overflow seating area, offering live Web coverage, will be available in the Russell Wright Alumni House and Conference Center.

Sam Zyroll, a 1978 SRU graduate and past president of the Slippery Rock University Alumni Association, will induct the new graduates as association members as part of the ceremony. The SRU Brass Quintet, directed by Brain Meixner, assistant professor of music, and the SRU Men’s Quartet will provide music.

A reception for graduates and their guests follows the ceremony in Weisenfluh Dining Hall.

An Army ROTC second lieutenant commissioning ceremony is at 2 p.m. in the Advanced Technology and Science Hall. No tickets required. The ceremony will be led by Lt. Col. Patrick Callahan, head of SRU’s military science department.
