Graduate draws on SRU education in comic book career
Anita Mio Nelson, a 1976 Slippery Rock University recreation graduate, has been named vice president of business affairs at Dark Horse Comics, the nation’s third largest comic book publisher behind Marvel and DC.
In her new post, she is responsible for domestic/international sales, licensing and business. Since joining the company she has brokered deals directly with artists and writers including Tim Burton, Janet Evanovich, Yoshitaka Amano, Frank Miller, along with USA Today, Nickelodeon, Toshiba, Jones Soda, Adidas, Electronic Arts and all of the large movies studios.
Nelson, who lives in Oregon, was recently profiled in the Wall Street Journal Online.
Dark Horse Comics Inc. is a privately held Oregon company established in 1986. The company and its sister company, Dark Horse Entertainment, have more than 350 properties represented under its banner, including the popular “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Star Wars" comic book series.
