SRU freshman wins radio contest; appears Sunday at Byham
Christmas is coming early for Kayleigh Walsh, a Slippery Rock University elementary education/early childhood education major from Beaver Falls, who has been selected to sing with “Neil Berg’s Broadway Holiday” 3 p.m. performance Sunday at Pittsburgh’s Byham Theater.
Walsh, a freshman, submitted a video of her singing Barbra Streisand’s “Funny Girl” hit “My Man,” as part of a WISH 99.7-FM radio contest and was selected as a winner to join the holiday show being presented by the Cohen and Grisby Trust at the Byham.
“I have a walk on role and will be singing “Season of Love” from the musical “Rent” she said.
“The station teamed with the Byham to offer the 10-day contest that invited those interested in performing in the holiday show to submit a video of their singing ability. We were very pleased with Kayleigh’s submission,” said Chris Shovlin, director of promotions and marketing, news and sports and an on-air personality at the radio station. “She is very excited about being selected.”
Walsh’s two-minute video, recorded in a Swope Music Hall Practice Room, may be seen at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_U8aIeIOTM&feature=youtu.be.
