SRU’s Joanne Leight earns Outstanding Professional Award
Joanne Leight, Slippery Rock University assistant professor of physical education, has received an Outstanding Professional Award from the Eastern District Association of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. She won for her teaching, scholarship and professional involvement in the field.
“I was surprised and humbled because so many people are doing great work in physical education,” said Leight, who was nominated by a professor at East Stroudsburg University.
“This is an honor both for Dr. Leight and the SRU physical education program,” said Randy Nichols, professor of physical education and department chair. “It is a privilege to have someone of her expertise teaching and working with our majors. She is a true professional in every sense of the word.”
Leight will accept the award at the eastern district alliance’s annual convention in March, in Boston.
The alliance promotes and support leadership, research, education, and best practices in the professions that support creative, healthy, and active lifestyles. The eastern district serves the members of its geographical area – Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Vermont and the Virgin Islands.
