SRU singers join ‘Marvin does Marvin’ PSO-Pops concert
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Five Slippery Rock University students will be part of the annual All-Star College Chorus when “Marvin does Marvin” is presented by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Pops March 10-13 in Pittsburgh.
The concert, directed by award-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch, is in Heinz Hall.
Participating students are:
- Allyson Ausel, a therapeutic recreation major from Cranberry;
- Jocelyn Fisher, a psychology major from Williamsport;
- Amanda Herman, an education major from Beaver Falls;
- Bridgette Sullivan, a resort recreation management and tourism major from Slippery Rock; and
- Savannah Wright, a music education major from Washington.
J. Mark McVey is the featured vocalist with the chorus directed by Robert Page.
Hamlisch has won virtually every major award. His groundbreaking show “A Chorus Line” received the Pulitzer Prize. As an artist, he has collaborated with many great artists, including Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand.
The upcoming concert showcases Hamlisch's award-winning hits as well as his personal journey, featuring music from “Ordinary People,” “Ice Castles,” “A Chorus Line,” “Sophie's Choice,” “Nobody Does it Better,” “The Way We Were” and “They're Playing Our Song.”
Hamlisch was given an honorary doctorate by SRU.
The March 10 performance is at 7:30 p.m.; March 11-12, 8 p.m.; and March 13, 2:30 p.m.
Those with an SRU connection, including friends, are being offered special admission prices.
Discounted tickets, depending on location, are $20, $30 or $40. Student tickets in the gallery are $12. The discount will be honored through “group sales” only and are available by calling 412.392.4819 in advance. Callers are required to identify themselves as belonging to the SRU group.
