SRU’s AmeriCorp concert
lends support to Gulf Coast relief

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University AmeriCorps Community Fellows, in conjunction with AVI Food Service, the campus contract food vendor, and the National Guard, will host a free “Change for Change Gulf Coast Wildlife Relief” concert at 5 p.m. Sept. 2.

The concert, at the Student Government Association Gazebo on the Quad outside Bailey Library, will feature five area bands.

Bands donating their time are Chessie and the Kittens, Worn Out Tigers, Free Candy, Hand Drawn Mountains and Wine & Spirit.

Funds raised at the event will help support relief efforts necessitated by the April 20 Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The spill is the largest marine spill in history.

AVI will coordinate use of “Flex Dollars” by SRU students to purchase Dawn dish detergent and paper towels. A Grove City-based National Guard unit will handle delivery of the much-needed items to the Gulf Coast. Cash donations will be accepted during the concert to purchase other needed items.

The SRU AmeriCorps program is part of the Center for Student Involvement and Leadership.
