SRU PR Office scores CUPRAP honors ‘hat trick’

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s University Public Relations Office scored a ‘hat trick,’ nabbing three awards in annual competition sponsored by CUPPAP- The Association of Communicators in Education. SRU won a Gold CUPPIE Award and a Bronze CUPPIE in the print publications/ posters category, and a Silver CUPPIE in the print publications/direct mail category.

The awards were presented Thursday at CUPRAP’s Spring Professional Development Conference in Hershey.

SRU’s gold award was for its “JAZZ Month at the Rock,” poster; the bronze award was for its “Kaleidoscope Arts Festival” poster; and the silver award was for the “Kaleidoscope – Regional Arts Festival” program booklet.

Aaron Moore, graphic designer in the department, created all three projects.

“The work turned out by our design staff is exceptional,” said Rita Abent, executive director of  University Public Relations. “Our small staff generates more than 350 posters, fliers, brochures, recruitment support materials and newspaper and magazine advertisements annually. The department also produces the very popular The ROCK magazine, which is distributed to more than 51,000 alumni and University friends. The staff consistently helps promote the high-quality education available at Slippery Rock University, and they aid in establishing the University’s rock solid foundation in the public education arena.”

“Our design team, which includes student workers, understands the importance of branding in helping the University reach its audience. They work hard to blend the important elements of design, including our logo, with the message we are trying to present,” said Sandy Busch, publications manager.

Formed in 1980 by a group of Pennsylvania higher education public relations professional, CUPRAP, The Association of Communicators in Education, has a membership of nearly 350 members from more than 100 higher education institutions in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware.
