SRU AmeriCorps project seeks Valentine wishes for veterans

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University’s AmeriCorps, in conjunction with State Sen. Jane Clare Orie (R-40), is seeking signatures and Valentine wishes for patients at local veteran’s hospitals.

The group will display large Valentine Day cards in the University Union through Feb. 11.

The “Valentines for Veterans” program allows SRU students, faculty and staff to say thank you to veterans, according to program organizers.

“The Valentines are a small token of how much our community appreciates their dedicated service,” Orie said.

The group is also seeking donations of books, puzzles, games, clothing, hygiene items, hometown sport items and DVD’s for distribution.

The SRU AmeriCorps, along with the SRU Veterans Club and the SRU Red Cross Club, plan numerous events throughout the year to recognize area veteran’s contributions.
