Crème of the
crop SRU dance majors perform Feb. 1-3
SLIPPERY
ROCK, Pa. –More than 50 of the most talented
dance majors at Slippery Rock University will bring their inspiring
moves to SRU’s Miller Auditorium for three performances Feb.
1-3, featuring dance theater and other dance
styles.
“Moving
Words, Dancing Stories” will present student choreography in
the modern, tap and dance theater genres, with music, props and
theatrical stage lighting adding to the excitement. Each concert,
presented by Slippery Rock University Dance Theater, begins at 8
p.m.
“These are the crème of the crop
majors,” said Nora Ambrosio, SRU dance department chair.
Students auditioned for the winter concert, with a panel of dance
faculty and guest artists selecting the performers, she
said.
The concerts will also include the work of visiting
faculty member Tom Truss, who will present a dance-theater piece
titled “Carrying.” Twenty-two dance majors translated
Truss’s artistic intentions into movement, text and song for
the piece, Ambrosio said.
Tickets
are $5 for general admission and $3 for SRU students and are
available at the door or the Morrow Field House Lobby Jan. 23, 25,
30 and Feb. 1 from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. and Jan. 31 from 3:30 to 4:30
p.m.
The
SRU dance department, created in 1989, has 104 dance majors and 50
