ReadingPhillies promote '07 graduate to community post
Matt Hoffmaster, a 2007 Slippery Rock University graduate, has been named director of community relations for the Reading Phillies, an affiliate of Major League Baseball's Philadelphia Phillies. He had been the team's client relationship assistant.
Hoffmaster will manage player and mascot appearances and coordinate fund-raising with 60 organizations, including the Boy Scouts and youth baseball leagues.
Hoffmaster, who received a bachelor's degree in sport management from SRU, interned with the Phillies every summer during his college years. He said his SRU education more than prepared him for his career. 2010 will mark his sixth year with the organization.
"The sport management program instilled in me the expectation that that you should get out in the world and gain practical experience, which I did by interning with the Reading Phillies," he said.
Slippery Rock University is Pennsylvania's premier public residential university.
