DEBATE ON PORNOGRAPHY SET FOR SRU FEB.
4
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Is pornography healthy
or is it denigrating to women? The topic will be debated in depth
when Ron Jeremy, a nationally recognized pornography star with
1,800 adult films to his credit, and Susan Cole, author playwright
and senior entertainment and book editor at NOW Magazine, meet at
Slippery Rock University on Feb. 4.
The
8 p.m. debate, sponsored by SRU’s University Program Board,
will be held in the University Union. Admission is
free.
A
former special education teacher, Jeremy, had his film debut in
1979 and has worked as both an actor and director. Born in New York
City, the 50-year-old porn proponent holds a master’s degree
from Queen’s College.
Cole,
active in the anti-pornography movement since the late 1970s has
written numerous essays and articles pointing out how pornography
promotes violence against women. Her book “Pornography and
the Sex Crisis” is used in a number of women’s studies
classes across the nation. Born in Toronto, Canada, she holds a
bachelor’s degree from Harvard.
The
program will allow each side to present opening remarks, then open
