SRU ‘HEALTHFEST ’03’ TO
AGAIN OFFER FREE AND LOW-COST HEALTH SCREENINGS
IN DAYLONG PROGRAM PROMOTING
AREA’S WELLBEING
SLIPPERY
ROCK, Pa. – Personal health for all age groups –
students and adults – is the focus of this year’
“Healthfest 2003” offered by Slippery Rock University
as a community outreach program. The daylong event will offer a
series of free or low-cost health screenings designed to help
community residents keep on top of their health
indicators.
The
annual event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in the
Robert N. Aebersold Student Recreation Center offering more than 75
information and screening booths.
Lead
by co-chairs Brian Mortimer, coordinator of wellness at the Russell
Wright Fitness Center in the student recreation center, and Dr.
Nancy Gabrielsen, assistant professor of allied health,
“Healthfest 2003” aims to further the
university’s mission as a caring community of lifelong
learners connecting with the world by involving all segments of the
local community. Residents from throughout the region are invited
to attend.
Health
or health-related agencies and organizations, along with
appropriate campus departments and programs, will participate
offering information, brochures and health
screenings.
Entertainment,
related to health and wellness, will also be part of the day with
the Slippery Rock Senior Center offering a “Line Dancing and
Clogging” exhibition in addition to a “Labyrinth
Presentation” outlining the benefits of walking meditation
presented by Cheryl Andre in conjunction with the Newman Center at
10:30 a.m. The rock cheerleaders will perform at 12:30 p.m. and the
SRU music department’s “Flute and Jazz Combo”
will perform at 12:45 p.m.

for community, Medicare B & Security Blue accepted)
