Sushi rolls, akara cake top menu for SRU's International Dinner         

 

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Sushi rolls from Japan, akara cake from Nigeria, cullohio apple pie from Ireland and a host of other interesting international foods will be offered at Slippery Rock University's 34th Annual International Dinner Nov. 8. The dinner is the culmination of the University's Internations Week, observed Nov. 2-8.

           The dinner will be served at 7 p.m. in the University Union.

           Tickets, $10 for students, $20 for the general public and $6 for children under age 12, are available from SRU's International Services Office, 114 Carruth Rizza Hall. Tickets must be purchased in advance and seating is limited.

           "This is our biggest and most exciting annual event. It is always a community favorite - and a sellout," said Kelly Slogar, international student adviser. "The dinner allows our international students the chance to bring their favorite recipes from home and share them with the entire campus community. It is also a chance for the community to sample unusual foods and meet and learn about our international students."

           SRU's international students spend the week preceding the dinner working with AVI, the campus contract food vendor, in purchasing and preparing the food various items.

           As part of the evening, international students will offer entertainment indicative of their home country.

           Internations Week opens at 7 p.m. Nov 2 in the Robert N. Aebersold Student Recreation Center where international students will demonstrate and explain sports from their home countries. An International Fashion Show, exhibiting clothing from various countries, is at 8 p.m. Nov. 3 in the University Union, and an International Coffee House and International Showcase, offering coffees, teas and cultural items brought to campus by students, will be at 2 p.m. Nov. 5 in North Hall.

           An International Roundtable is at 12:30 p.m. Nov. 6 in the University Union. International students will share the culture, economics, education programs and politics of their home nations.

           The week's events are sponsored by the SRU Internations Club.
