SIX NAMED MARJORIE
STEPHENSON SCHOLARS AT SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock
University’s Marjorie Stephenson Scholarships, created by the
university’s former librarian, have been presented to six
students for the 2002-03 academic year. Each scholarship is for
$500 to $1,000.
The
recipients, honored at a recent luncheon in the Russell Wright
Alumni House, are:
Santina
Burakiewicz, a Spanish and education major from Luzerne;
Sabrina
Jones, an accounting major from Farrell;
Narendra
Patel, a computer science major from Kenya;
Sarah
Pollard, a special education and elementary education major from
Fayetteville;
Rosie
Trump, a dance major from New Stanton, and;
Sheree
Wright, a communication major from Philadelphia.
The
undergraduate scholarships were provided for in Ms.
Stephenson’s will. She served SRU from 1971 to
1978.
First
awarded in 1987, priority is given to support African-American
students and library science majors, but the award is also
available to those studying in the arts, humanities, social
sciences or education.
A
pplications for the 2003-2004 awards will be available in the
Academic Support Services Office, 106 Bailey Library. Deadline for
submission is March 15, 2003. Students with questions may
contact the Melba Tomeo, scholarship committee chair, at
