SRU’S GRADUATE PROGRAM IN PROFESSIONAL WRITING AT NORTH
HILLS
SITE PREPARES STUDENTS FOR CAREERS IN SEVERAL
FIELDS
SLIPPERY
ROCK, Pa. – Those who aspire to a professional writing career
in business, technology or science have a more convenient way to
acquire the credentials: Slippery Rock University is offering a
master of arts in professional writing at its North Hills Site off
Route 910 in Wexford.
Students
should be able to complete the degree in two years, even if fully
employed. Most classes are held in the evening to accommodate
working adults. Classes are open to students with undergraduate
degrees in English, communication, business, science or
technology.
Two
courses will be offered spring semester, “Introduction to
Rhetoric” and “Seminar in Creative Writing,”
offered on Wednesdays and Tuesdays, respectively. SRU created the
program in 1996, but next semester will be the first time classes
are held at North Hills Site.
The
program provides a strong background in verbal and visual rhetoric,
applicable in publishing, technical and scientific writing, grant
application, advertising and public relations. The program also
prepares students who wish to apply to doctoral programs in order
to teach professional writing at the college level.
SRU’s
North Hills Site is just west of I-79, in the Waterfront Corporate
Park building. Free parking is available, and classrooms are
furnished to suit adults.
