'Miracles on Main Street' sets spirit

for Slippery Rock Light Up Night

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -  "Light Up Night," an annual holiday collaboration between Slippery Rock University and the Slippery Rock community, will use Miracles on Main Street" as its theme this year. The program includes a Wreath Decorating Contest to benefit the Slippery Rock Feed My Sheep Food Cupboard.

The annual event begins at 6 p.m. Nov. 23 at the corner of Main and Franklin streets, including lighting of the Christmas tree and singing of carols.

Following a walk along Main Street, participants will gather at SRU's Russell Wright Alumni House for refreshments and entertainment - and photo opportunities with Santa.

SRU's Association of Residence Hall Students organization and the Slippery Rock Business Association are jointly sponsoring a Wreath Decorating Contest to benefit the local food bank.

Wreaths will be judged, then hung on downtown lamp posts.

All student organizations, businesses, offices, individuals, community organizations and local family are urged to participate.

SRU student organizations may sign up at the University Union Information Desk or in the SRU Residence Life Office. ARHS will provide organizations with a 24-inch wreath and a set of multicolored lights for use on the wreaths. All other decorations are the responsibility of the sponsoring organization.

The contest entry fee is 10 non-perishable food items that will be donated to the food cupboard.

All wreaths will be displayed and judged in the SGA Bookstore before being hung on lamp posts. Participating organizations will have a placard displayed in the bookstore and on the light pole in recognition.
