17TH ANNUAL SRU/SLIPPERY ROCK ‘LIGHT UP NIGHT’ INCLUDES SANTA VISIT AND MUSIC

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University and the Slippery Rock community will join forces at 7 p.m. Sunday [Nov. 24] for the 17th annual “Light Up Night,” officially opening the holiday season with music and a visit from Santa.

The opening ceremony, organized by SRU’s Association of Residence Hall Students and Slippery Rock Mayor Ken Harris, will be held in Memorial Square on Main Street. The local Lions Club will participate by lighting the borough’s Christmas tree.

Following the lighting, participants will move to campus for welcome remarks by University President G. Warren Smith and Dr. Robert Watson, vice president for student affairs, outside Miller Auditorium. Musical selections by the SRU Gospel Choir, a candle lighting ceremony and holiday carols will be followed by Santa’s arrival. Hot chocolate and cookies, donated by ARAMARK, the campus food vendor, will be provided.
