Pittsburgh Post-Gazette taps Jay Herzog as expert source
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- When the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette needed a nationally recognized expert to assess the job market for recent teacher-preparation graduates, the region's largest newspaper turned to Jay Hertzog, SRU's dean of the College of Education.
Hertzog's advice - look beyond western Pennsylvania, especially to the Southwest - appears in an education insert published in today's Post-Gazette.
The newspaper also published a photograph of Hertzog and references SRU's student teaching programs in Nevada and North Carolina as good examples of job networking.
Hertzog told reporter Anya Sostek more than 200 Rock graduates work as teachers in Las Vegas. "I understand close and family and all that, but our kids in Vegas, they love it," he said. "And the Southwest is just crying for teachers."
