Rock graduate student earns Swan Award

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Wes Bonadio, a Slippery Rock University graduate assistant in Campus Recreation's Intramural Sports Program, has been named the 2007-2008 Pennsylvania Intramural Recreational Sports Association's Bill Swan Award recipient.

The award recognizes students who have displayed dedication and commitment to the recreational program at their institution.

Bill Swan served Penn State University for more than 35 years. His dedication to the university, the field of recreational sports and student development in Region I are recognized in the award. The honor is presented at the annual State Workshop to a graduate or undergraduate student displaying outstanding leadership within their institution, exhibiting fine moral character, showing ability to exemplify strong standards, ethical behavior and volunteer activity leadership within the institution or community.

Bonadio expects to graduate in May with a Master of Science degree in student development. His career goal is to become a campus recreation professional. He began working in campus recreation in 2003 as an exercise specialist and intramural sports supervisor. His success in these roles assisted him in securing the 2006-2007 campus recreation internship, a full-time academic year internship primarily working with the SRU Intramural Sports Program under the guidance of the coordinator of intramural sports and facility operations.

"Wes has assumed a number of leadership roles within the program and done an excellent job in each of them. He is enthusiastic, knowledgeable and dedicated," said Greg Sferra, SRU director of campus recreation. "His personality, coupled with his interpersonal and leadership skills, is a great asset to him in working with diverse groups of people and multiple sports. He has been an excellent employee and dedicated member of our staff."
