SRU’S OLD STONE HOUSE TO HOST TWO
HOLIDAY EVENTS;
CANDLELIGHT CHRISTMAS TOUR, CIVIL WAR
CHRISTMAS
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.
– The annual, three-day Candlelight Christmas Tour of the Old
Stone House, Butler County’s most recognizable landmark, will
be followed by the two-day “A Civil War Christmas,”
showing what the holiday was like for thousands of soldiers and
their families during the American Civil War.
The candlelight
tour will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday [Dec. 1-2]
and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the facility located at the
intersection of routes 8 and 173 and 528, 12 miles north of Butler.
The Old Stone House is owned and managed by Slippery Rock
University.
The free tour will
find every room decorated by a different area florist or craft
dealer. All decorations will be offered for sale. Traditional
holiday treats will also be offered.
Soldiers, their
wives and children will be on hand for the free 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Dec. 9-10 Civil War re-enactment event. Traditional music of the
19th century will be presented and visitors may chat with those who
endured the holiday during the nation’s darkest
days.
The facility is
curated by Dr. David Dixson, SRU professor of
history.
