MUSICIANS’ CONCERT BAND, HOLIDAY
CHORUS
TO
PERFORM SUNDAY AT SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – “Light Up
the Season” will be the theme for Sunday’s [Dec. 5]
Musicians’ Concert Band and Holiday Chorus performance in
Slippery Rock University’s Miller
Auditorium.
The
holiday music concert opens at 4 p.m. with the band directed by
Blasé Scarnati, professor emeritus of music at SRU, and the
chorus directed by LaDonna Linamen, a member of the band’s
trumpet section and an employee in SRU’s facility and
planning department.
Donations
will be accepted at the door.
The
band’s portion of the concert will include “Lullaby
Carols,” “Rhythm of the Winds,” “Alleluia!
Laudamus Te” “Exaltation” “C’est
Noel!” and “Kris Kringle’s Jingle” directed
by Scarnati, with Leroy Anderson’s “Sleigh Ride”
and “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day” conducted by
Michael C. Formeck, associate conductor.
The
holiday chorus, which has been part of the holiday concert since
2000, will join the band for “A Christmas Serenade,”
“I Wonder as I Wander,” “Do You Hear What I
Hear” and Handel’s “Hallelujah
Chorus.”
The
concert will end with “We Wish You a Merry
Christmas.”
The
100-piece band was formed in 1986 as part of the community band
movement begun in the 19th century. It has been under
the direction of Scarnati since it formation. Scarnati served as
conductor of bands at SRU until his retirement in
1996.
