ANNUAL INTERNATIONS WEEK AT SRU OPENS
SUNDAY
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University's annual
Internations Week kicks off Sunday [Nov. 9]with "International
Sports Night" and ends Nov. 15 with the traditional "International
Dinner" featuring more than 50 food items from around the world as
a way of focusing campus and community attention on the
university's international student program.
The
annual program, organized by students and staff in SRU’s
Office of International Initiatives, is designed to spotlight the
importance of international study and show the campus and community
the rich diversity international students bring to the
university.
This
semester more than 50 countries are represented by more than 135
international students taking classes at SRU. More than 150 SRU
students will spend part of their academic year in study abroad
programs.
International
Sports Night opens at 7 p.m. in the Robert N. Aebersold Student
Recreation Center allowing all students to participate in table
tennis, badminton, cricket and soccer. At 8 p.m. Monday [Nov. 10],
a “Fashion Show” with clothes, music and dance from
various countries will be seen in the University Union’s
Multi-Purpose Room, and at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday an
“International Showcase,” will display artifacts from
around the world in the union’s lobby.
Wednesday’s
event is a 2 to 4 p.m. Coffee House in the lobby of Carruth Rizza
Hall, new home to SRU’s Office of International Initiatives
and department of modern languages and cultures. A 12:30 p.m.
Thursday roundtable in Room 207 of the union will offer
presentations of economic and political issues from the
student’s home countries.
The
International Dinner will be held at 7 p.m. in the University
Union. The event features food prepared by SRU’s
international students with the help of AVI, the campus, contract
food vendor.
