39 school districts visit SRU seeking to fill teacher positions

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Thirty-nine school districts from across the country, including Alaska, will be on hand to interview Slippery Rock University and other regional college education majors Nov.12 when SRU's Office of Career Services hosts its annual fall semester Teacher Job Fair.

The fair, which opens at 8:30 a.m., will be in SRU's University Union.

"We expect more than 225 soon-to-graduate SRU teacher education majors as well as education majors from neighboring colleges and universities will turn out looking for jobs," said Tony Linnan, associate director of Career Services.

This year's program offered on-line registration allowing teacher hopefuls to schedule interviews with visiting school districts in advance. Job seekers who have not pre-registered are urged to be on hand when the doors open to give them the best shot at the remaining interview slots.

"With SRU's recent re-accreditation by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, our students will certainly have something to brag about as part of their interviews," Linnan said. "This is one of our major efforts to help those majoring in education land good teaching jobs before they graduate, while at the same time providing a way for school districts needing quality teachers the opportunity to interview well-qualified potential candidates."  The fair is open to those who are soon to graduate as well as alumni and others looking for teaching positions.

In addition to seven Pennsylvania school districts, representatives from the Lake and Peninsula School District in King Salmon, Ala., will attend as will representatives from districts in Washington D.C., Delaware, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, North Carolina, Nevada, South Carolina and Virginia.

Slippery Rock University is Pennsylvania's premier public residential university.
