SRU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION TO HOST MEMORIAL DAY EVENT AT NOON

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – To mark Veterans Day 2004 at Slippery Rock University, the SRU Alumni Association will host a flag raising ceremony at the Veterans Memorial dedicated last year outside Russell Wright Alumni House.

This year’s noon ceremony on Thursday [Nov. 11] will include a flag raising by the SRU Army ROTC Honor Guard and a laying of a wreath at the memorial by Zane Meixner, SRU class of 49, Brent Johnson, class of 1973, and Richard Manning, class of 1975.

The invocation will be delivered by Duane Conway, class of 1956, and the keynote address will be presented by Lt. Col. William L. Bialozor, head of SRU’s Army ROTC program. Remarks will also be offered by Dr. Robert Watson, vice president for student affairs, Michael Saraka, SRU director of alumni affairs, and Tom Perry, a member of the class of 2002, who will introduce the SRU Veteran’s Alumni Chapter.

The circular-brick, three-flag pole memorial was presented to the university at last year’s ceremony as a gift from the alumni classes of 1951, 1952 and 1953.

Refreshments will follow in the alumni house.
