ALL NIGHT LIBRARY HOURS AT SRU ACCOMMODATE
STUDENTS DURING FINALS WEEK
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –Students at
Slippery Rock University will be able to study all night at Bailey
Library during finals week Dec. 11-15 under an expanded-hours plan
requested by students and approved by library officials. It is the
first time SRU has extended library hours past the normal 2 a.m.
closing.
Bailey Library will remain continuously open from
7:45 a.m. Monday to 5 p.m. Friday. Librarians will lock the
doors from 2 to 7:45 a.m. Monday-Thursday, allowing students to
leave any time but preventing others from entering.
"The Student Government Association came to us
and asked for 24-hours during finals week," said Catherine
Rudowsky, library instructor. "We will pilot this during this
semester to see how demand goes. Based on this semester, we
will determine the need to do this again during future finals
weeks."
I know from personal experience, because I work
at the library, that over the past several weeks, I have seen
increasing numbers of students at the library late at night "SGA's
Kurt Sterling, a marketing major from Sharon, said." "I predict a
lot of students will take advantage of the all-night
hours."
Students will not be able to check out books or
laptops from 2 to 7:45 a.m., but free coffee will be served. Bailey
will also sponsor study breaks Monday and Wednesday nights with
pizza, chips and cookies delivered at 8 and 9 p.m. to the second
floor lobby.
"We are offering a nice, quiet place to study and
stay awake," Rudowsky said.
