Four in a row: Rock women cruise to PSAC Championship
The Slippery Rock University women's track and field team won its fourth consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field championship Saturday. The Rock led wire-to-wire, taking the lead after Thursday's opening events.
The Rock emerged victorious with a final team score of 179 points, beating Shippensburg University at 162.50, Lock Haven University (116), Indiana University of Pennsylvania (94.50) and East Stroudsburg University (79.50) in the top-five.
The SRU senior class wrapped up a perfect career at the event, winning titles in each of their outdoor seasons at SRU. The senior class also added the last three indoor championships to finish with seven team titles in their career.
John Papa, head coach, picked up his 23rd overall PSAC Championship, including his eighth women's outdoor title in the last 11 years.
"Our women really stepped up this weekend," said Bill Jordan, assistant coach. "We couldn't be more proud of the way they competed across the board. Our sprinters and hurdlers were incredible."
