SRU helps couples plan wedding without a hitch

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.  - One thing couples don't want to worry about on their big day is the reception. Staff at Slippery Rock University are trained to "deal with the details" and are sponsoring a "Wedding Showcase" Feb. 28 from 4-8 p.m. to show off their skills and promote the University as a wedding site. The showcase, according to organizers, will also help connect couples with local photographers, bakers, florists and those selling dresses, bridesmaid gowns and tuxedos.

The Showcase will be in the University Union Multi-Purpose Room, which the University rents for receptions. SRU will also promote other campus locations available for weddings such as the courtyard at North Hall and the Russell Wright Alumni House.

More than 20 venders will participate in the Showcase and provide information about their services. The program includes one giveaway dinner for two at North Country Brewery and an overnight stay at the Applebutter Inn.

"We had 400 people at last year's Showcase and as a result several couples have already reserved  our Multi-Purpose Room for this summer," said Debbie Schell, SRU coordinator of University Union facilities and event services. "The Multi-Purpose room seats more than 400 people and catering is arranged through AVI Catering."

The free program is open to Rock students, alumni and community couples. The University Union and AVI Foodservice, Inc., SRU's food vendor, are the sponsors.

For more information, call Schell at 724.738.2491.
