SRU alumni join 2010 Olympics in Vancouver
When the 2010 Olympics open Friday in Vancouver, at least two Slippery Rock University alumni will be there.
Melissa Hilty, a 2004 education graduate, and Jason Oberholtzer, a 2000 sport management graduate, from Ephrata, will be part of the behind-the-scenes staff. Both will be involved in setting up various event sites at the games.
Robin Ammon, professor of sport management, said Hilty also lent a hand for the Asian Games, which took place in Kitar two years ago.
He said Oberholtzer, worked at the 2000 Olympics in Sidney, Australia, the 2002 games in Salt Lake City, and the World Cup in Korea and Japan. He also staffed the Asian Games in Kitar and the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
Coverage of the Opening Ceremony begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday on NBC affiliates. NBC has exclusive television broadcast rights to the games, which conclude Feb. 28.
