SRU graduate joins inaugural class of Pa. addiction counselors
Charlie Fischer, a 1984 Slippery Rock University master's degree graduate in counseling psychology, has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Certification Board as a member of the first class of certified addictions counselors in Pennsylvania.
Fischer, an addictions counselor at Sharon Regional Health System's Behavioral Health Services, has more than 30 years service at Sharon Regional. His work includes service on substance abuse counseling teams, outpatient counseling and an intensive outpatient program known as "New Directions."
He earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Allegheny College and is a licensed professional counselor in Pennsylvania. He is also an internationally licensed alcohol and drug counselor and is pursuing certification for gambling counseling through the Bureau of Drug and Alcohol Programs.
