SHAKESPEARE’S ‘THE TEMPEST’ COMING TO
SRU’S MILLER AUDITORIUM
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – “The
Tempest,” by William Shakespeare, will be revived for eight
performances by the SRU theater department beginning Feb.
23.
Curtains
are set for 8 p.m. Feb. 23-26 and March 1-3, and 2 p.m. Feb. 27 in
Miller Auditorium. Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for the
general public.
The
play, set on a magical island, finds Prospero (Evan Endres of
Ligonier), Miranda (Val Long of Moon Township) and their servants
as inhabitants. The cast includes Dean O’Brokta of Saxonburg
as Ferdinand, Deanna Brookens of Slippery Rock as Ariel, Jeff Feola
of New Castle as Caliban and Bret Hockenberry of Oil City as
Stephano.
Directed
by Laura Smiley, instructor of theater at SRU, with scenery and
lighting designed by Gordon Phetteplace, associate professor of
theater, and costumes by Rebecca Morrice, assistant professor of
theater, the play brings together spirits, drunkards, monsters,
maidens and shipwrecked, scheming noblemen.
