SRU graduate named superintendent at Pine-Richland
Mary Bucci, a 1971 Slippery Rock University education graduate, has been named superintendent of the Pine-Richland School District, a northern Pittsburgh suburb.
Bucci has served as assistant superintendent/elementary since May 2007.
"My two years in the district have been the most invigorating and inspiring of my career," Bucci told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "This is a special place - because of the special people who live, work and learn here. We have a dynamic community with the hallmarks of excellence at every turn - excellence in the arts, in athletics, in academics and in our relationships."
Bucci was given a four-year contact and officially begins work Wednesday. She replaces James Manley, who is retiring.
In addition to her SRU degree, Bucci earned a doctorate in education from the University of Pittsburgh and a master's degree in education from Regent University.
She has also served as assistant superintendent at New Brighton Area School District and as director of curriculum and instruction. She was coordinator of general studies at Hillel Academy of Pittsburgh and was a curriculum specialist, staff development leader and teacher for Rhema Christian School in Moon Township. She also taught at Shenango Elementary School.
